Abstract

Though a failure to engage with science has long been subject to criticism, when we observe teaching plans created by students at our university, more than a few cases do not adequately consider boosting students’ interest toward the natural world and its phenomena. Therefore, it would be of major significance to send the student teachers at our university to schools equipped with competencies that might enable them to develop classroom content fostering involvement and pursuit of the natural world and its phenomena. By developing teaching materials for use in introductory classes, devising techniques for presenting teaching materials, and posing appropriate questions, it will be possible to draw learners’ attention to the appealing natural world and highlight its mysteries. In addition, by boosting students’ interest, it seems possible to encourage students to continue this involvement and proactively and voluntarily participate in classes. Then, through the continuous implementation of such lessons, it might be possible to gradually dispel the feelings of inferiority toward science. This study examines the effects of implementing lessons designed on the basis of these ideas and reports observations that include changes in consciousness and increased interest toward subjects covered in class as a result of such implementation.
