Abstract

According to the new core curriculum of English, communicative competence, especially the integration of five skills, is emphasized. It is essential for future teachers of elementary schools not only to learn how to instruct English, but also to acquire the knowledge about phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, sentence-structures, orthography, SLA (second Language Acquisition) theory, children’s literature, and cross-cultural understanding. This paper attempted to prepare the syllabus to improve English competence and instruction.
