Abstract

As a result of assessing the physical and mental effects of eating habits in the form of convenience food consumption and dieting based on their correlation with bowel movement status and mental health among junior high school students, eating habits among junior high school students were found to not necessarily ensure a desirable ingestion frequency with respect to foods other than staple foods. In addition, eating habits were also clearly determined to have an effect on bowel movement status, and frequent ingestion of convenience foods, fast foods and soft drinks in particular demonstrated an effect on bowel movement status and mental health. A history of dieting was also shown to have an effect on bowel movement status and mental health. Bowel movement status was affected in terms of difficulty in evacuation while mental health was affected in terms of self-efficacy, and frequent ingestion of fast foods was also observed to be correlated with a history of dieting. On the basis of the above, the eating habits of junior high school students were suggested to have both physical and mental effects.
